The Parklife Metro Consortium is working on an exciting new metro rail infrastructure project in Greater Western Sydney.

This city shaping project, which will be delivered under a Public Private Partnership, will provide a major economic stimulus for Western Sydney. 

WeBuild as a D&C Contractor member, will be responsible for the successful delivery of the design and construction elements of the project, and we are currently looking to appoint MEP Design Coordinator.


Position Summary


The MEP Design Coordinator manages and controls the allocated design aspects of the SSTOM project, to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget. This role is critical in ensuring that the project meets the client’s expectations and adheres to all construction regulations and standards. This role is considered a Rail Safety Worker.

Key responsibilities

Quality, Environmental and Safety:

  • Ensure that the design package content meets relevant deliverable project requirements
  • Commitment to quality within the project teams
  • Assists with tracking and coordination non-conformances
  • Promotes safety values to clients and authorities
  • Makes himself/herself aware of all his/her WH&S responsibilities as detailed in the Systems Procedures Manual

Design Management:

  • Ensure the project delivery team is working to the current design documentation
  • Identify design risks and manage mitigations
  • Work with Design Team members (internal & external) to provide an effective design management service for the project
  • Works to target programs concerning design matters in line with internal requirements and external constraints

Scheduling and Reporting:

  • Inform and provide input into the project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and resolving issues
  • Contribute to project status reports
  • Manage the coordination of design documentation between the third-party designers, Client and construction team/s
  • Coordinate design process and ensure the timely production of design information

Design Submissions:

  • Coordinate and apply the design process to ensure that all detail design packages are reviewed
  • Manage the MEP Design Package register in consultation with MEP Construction Manager and Design Managers
  • Manage the submissions and the data to support the preparation of the weekly four week look ahead for distribution.
  • Manage submissions against MEP design program and update forecast and delays by liaising with design consultants
  • Coordinate and track design packages through their review and external submission
  • Maintain reviewer list and work with Parklife document control to ensure relevant consultant parties and internal reviewers are timely notified
  • Identify and report delays in the delivery of design packages
  • Work with the MEP Construction Manager to ensure design documentation packages are suitably complete for submission.

IC Comments:

  • Manage the IC Comments process including tracking and reporting the status of IC Comments
  • Establish and maintain a register of Non-Conformances on Design Packages in consultation with the Design Managers
  • Coordinate the issuing of IC Comment Responses

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.

Minimum Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in construction of Infrastructure Projects.
  • Experience in coordinating design activities on infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of design principles and techniques.

Job-Specific Skills

  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specifications, standards, and implications for project accountabilities.
  • High-level ability to accurately interpret architectural and engineering drawings, principal project requirements and specifications
  • Ability to facilitate value engineering and architectural reviews of consultant designs via the use of digital tools and workflows
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering design principles, building codes, and construction processes.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in design coordination.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.
  • Carries out work involving the certification of the safety of rail infrastructure or rolling stock.
